Achilles

First post of 2008!

This has been on my easel for a while now as had a festive break while waiting for layers to dry. Finally finished it this week. I started this while doing my recent oil painting night class where the tutor was trying to get us to go more abstract. After much head scratching for ideas I came up with looking at the legend of Achilles and using classical art as a starting point tried to create a contemporary 'abstract' image.

It was a real departure for me as I mostly paint in a realist fashion- I have to admit I really got into and was surprised how much work was involved in it. I really got excited seeing what effects, textures and shapes I could get in there.

Hi Ryan, Man, this came out really nice. I like the scene and the design work behind the figure. In art it seems anything that looks easy is usaully the opposite. Good going here.

Thanks Ron

It really was an eye opener for me. Definitiely not something I would have done left to my own devices. Its good to challenge yourself though

Yes the painting is for sale. As to whether a print is available the answer I'm afraid is not at the moment but if you are interested I could price that up for you.
I'm currently working up more on this theme- so watch this space- as I'm participating in an exhibition in aid of Cancer Research. I haven't yet decided what paintings to submit...

Thanks for looking in -I had a look at your blog some really nice textural stuff going on there!
